The F45 Story

F45 is a well-known Australian circuit training franchise founded in 2012 by Rob Deutsch and Adam Gilchrist in Sydney. Today, the brand stands at over 1,750 locations across 45 countries, and was one of the first boutique franchises to IPO on the New York stock exchange in 2019.

F45’s success has received celebrity endorsements from the likes of Hugh Jackman in their early days, as well as Mark Wahlberg, who is also an investor in the company.

Their  tagline “team training, life changing”, is reflected in their community-focused workouts that are catered to all fitness levels.

The Highlights

The overall client experience was very smooth during our entire anonymous evaluation, right from when we entered the studio up until the time we left.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“The coach went above and beyond the prescribed exercises on the screen, giving great individual attention to make sure everyone was working at the right level for them.”

“Words of encouragement were meaningful and personalized.”

“The screens that displayed the timer, visual demonstration of each exercise, and the flow of the workout were impressive.”

What To Expect From An F45 Session

The name stands for “Functional Training 45”, with sessions being a mix of functional HIIT and strength exercises delivered in a 45-minute format. Each day, the workout is predetermined by F45 HQ and is the same at every F45 location worldwide.

Their Saturday “Hollywood” sessions are the only 60-minute class and are famous for hiring local DJs to create a party atmosphere and bring the community together.

Workouts are typically run by two or more coaches per class. To support the coach, clients are guided by screens that display each exercise as well as beeps and graphics that cue you to work, rest or move to your next station.

The Reception Service

The reception service was smooth, warm, friendly, and comprehensive.

The Class Experience

F45 Lower East Side received The Fit Guide’s prestigious and highest 5-Star Class Experience Award, highlighting one of the very best class experiences in New York.

The coach was very present, positive, and highly authentic. Words of encouragement were meaningful, personalized, and individual regressions and progressions were given that went beyond the standard workout on the screen. It was clear that the coach was knowledgeable and wanted everyone to leave the workout feeling it was the exact right level for them.

The Equipment And Studio

The entire studio and all equipment were exceptionally fresh and well maintained. There were clear branding elements throughout the studio including a wall mural with the F45 logo, as well as logos and onbrand colours on most of the equipment.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The facilities and public areas were clean, comfortable, and well presented. Changing areas were also well stocked and offered a wide range of amenities.

Workout and shower towels were provided free of charge. Lockers were provided with number locks. A free water refill station was available.

Digital And Technology

An impressive feature of the class was the screens that displayed the timer, a visual demonstration of each exercise, and the flow of the workout. The screens updated as the class progressed, instructing us to 'rest', 'stay on this station' or 'move to the next station'. All visuals through the technology were on brand.

On the website, the descriptions of the classes and clear explanations of their values were strong points. However, there was no information on the coaching team.

Pricing

F45 LES offers a three day trial promo on their website for local NYC residents. The price of a single drop-in class is $40.

If you’re looking for a longer-term commitment, memberships are available from $249 for eight classes per month up to $330 for unlimited classes if you choose to pay month to month. A six-month upfront commitment to unlimited classes will bring the price down to $288.
