The AARMY Story

AARMY was founded in 2018 by superstar instructor Akin Akman. Supported by a team of high-level instructors, Akin and his army operate out of a single studio at their HQ on Broadway, just south of Noho. AARMY was created to help you ‘build your strongest, most resilient and most optimistic self’, whether that be in person or through their extensive online program.

Although the brand is famous for Akin himself, his team have developed strong followings and reputations in their own right.

The Highlights

The energy of the instructor and the feeling of connection and community amongst the class were particular standouts.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“The class experience exceeded my expectations on every level.”

“The class was advanced but the coach had an incredible energy that would make any beginner feel 100% included and empowered”

“There was a genuine and powerful sense of community throughout the session.”

What To Expect From An Aarmy Session

AARMY offers premium indoor cycling in a supportive and highly motivating environment. The studio boasts strong, unique features that strengthen the brand, as well as high-quality studio lighting and sound systems to enhance the experience. A typical class at AARMY is much more than 45 minutes of cycling; it’s an experience that will help you “embrace a philosophy of constant progress”.

Alongside cycling, AARMY also offers bodyweight bootcamp sessions at their Broadway studio that are split between Upper, Lower, Full Body and Abs. Every session at AARMY is delivered in a high energy, music-driven environment.

The Reception Service

Despite there not being a way to call the studio, the reception staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful throughout our anonymous evaluation. The physical orientation of the studio was unrushed and the reception staff appeared genuinely happy to help.

Personalizing the service and making sure the level of reception service was consistent across the entire visit would have helped make a stronger connection.

The Class Experience

AARMY received The Fit Guide’s prestigious and highest 5-Star Class Experience Award, with one of the highest-rated class experiences in New York.

The coach had incredible energy from start to finish and there was an overwhelmingly positive sense of community. These elements, along with the music selection and lighting design, made for an exceptional indoor cycling experience.

While some of the movements could be considered advanced, the instructor placed high importance on inclusivity and community, and the class was delivered in a way where beginners would feel like they belong, are welcome, and are empowered to go at their pace.

The Equipment And Studio

The darkened studio featured a high-quality light and sound system that was fit for the offering. The room was spacious and immaculately well-presented.

The bikes appeared to be purpose-built for AARMY and felt sturdier than some other indoor cycling bikes.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The public areas had unique branding features that all contributed towards a stunning and on-brand training facility. Particularly noteworthy were the well-placed quotes on the walls which complemented the brand’s ethos of “embracing a philosophy of constant progress surrounded by the inspiration of what’s possible”.

The unisex changing areas were very spacious and comfortable, with plenty of large sofas for use before and after a session. However, there were only three unisex bathrooms and no shower facilities available at the club.

Workout towels were provided free of charge. Free water refill stations were available. Lockers were provided but personal padlocks were required.

Digital And Technology

The online booking process was smooth and user-friendly. The website was functional, informative, and well-designed, with a clear sense of brand and messaging.

A highlight was their app and online offerings. This seems to be an integral part of their business and we found it to be marketed well on their website.

All social media activity was up to date and contained professional content that was informative.

Pricing

AARMY provides new clients with a complimentary first in-person class. Single drop-in sessions can be bought for $38 per class.

AARMY does not offer memberships, but if you’re looking for a longer-term commitment, you can purchase class packages. These range from 5 classes for $185 to 30 classes for $990.
