The Highlights

A highlight of Y7 was its refreshing, distinctive feel that we found to be accessible and fun.

We also loved the vibe, studio - and especially the music!

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“Our instructor clearly had a passion for yoga and you could see she enjoyed teaching.”

“I loved the studio, which had a very distinct sense of brand and place. It was dark, candle-lit and had no mirrors.

“There were nice design touches through the space, such as a backlit set of namaste hands on the wall.”

What To Expect From A Y7 Studio Session

The Y7 promise is bold and enticing: “Sweat dripping, beat bumping, candlelit yoga.” Y7 offers an accessible atmosphere that’s welcome to all and an environment that’s different to most other yoga studios you’ve seen.

Class types include 60-minute Weflowhard Vinyasa and 75-minute Flow + Restore.

The Reception Service

Since no phone number was listed online, a phone inquiry was not possible.

Upon arrival, the receptionist was polite, completing the registration quickly and pointing out key areas such as the locker rooms, water refill stations, and showers. The orientation provided was sufficient and helped us feel comfortable navigating the space. Additional guidance, such as where to wait before the class began would have been appreciated.

The departure interaction lacked personalization and engagement, as our evaluator was not asked about their experience or encouraged to return. Although staff demonstrated confidence when discussing membership options during earlier conversations, there was no attempt to understand the client’s specific needs. While the service was adequate, we found it more transactional than welcoming or memorable.

The Class Experience

Y7 Studio Flatiron received The Fit Guide Class Experience Award of Excellence, making it one of New York’s stand-out offerings.

The class was engaging and enjoyable, offering an interesting format that we found fresh and challenging. The coach demonstrated clear expertise, delivering concise explanations, personal adjustments, and creative variations for different ability levels. The flow of the class was well-structured, with clear transitions, appropriately timed breaks, and a calming cooldown that wrapped up the session effectively. The use of techniques like palo santo to set the atmosphere added a unique and thoughtful touch.

However, the experience for first-time participants could have been stronger. Our coach did not greet participants individually, learn their names, or provide personalized guidance during the session. While injury checks were conducted, beginners in the class were not given extra attention, and there were no individual words of encouragement offered.

Overall, the class provided a positive and enjoyable experience, with its strengths lying in the coach’s technical skill, passion, and creativity.

The Equipment And Studio

The studio created a unique and atmospheric experience with its dark, candlelit environment, black-painted walls, and lack of mirrors. This distinctive design, combined with the placement of branded slogans like "We Flow Hard" above the fireplace, reinforced a strong sense of identity and offered a serene yet focused ambiance. The high-quality mats further contributed to the experience, ensuring comfort during the session.

One minor gripe was that the mat placement, while designated with stickers, was too close, limiting personal space during the class.

The studio’s clean and well-maintained environment, coupled with its candlelit charm and high-quality sound system, provided a satisfying experience overall.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The public areas of the studio featured an industrial design with wood floors, white-painted brick walls, and large arched windows. Branding elements such as a backlit "namaste" hands display and motivational phrases on the stairs added to the studio’s identity.

The locker room provided two small changing areas, three showers, and two bathrooms, but we found the layout to be a bit inconvenient. Lockers with numerical locks were situated near reception and the refresh bar was in the hallway, meaning we had to use amenities like lotion and deodorant after getting dressed in the shower stalls. Lockers were small and required piling items on top of each other. Complimentary workout and shower towels were provided, though the towels appeared old.

The bathrooms and showers were hygienic, with hot water, strong pressure, and consistent temperatures. However, a few maintenance issues were noted. Essential amenities such as hand wash, lotion, deodorant, dry shampoo, and face wipes were available and well-stocked.

A water refill station provided complimentary hydration, but there were no additional beverage or food options.

Digital And Technology

We were impressed with the Digital & Technology experience provided by Y7. The website was well-designed, easy to navigate, and offered clear information on schedules, class types, and cancellation policies. We found booking a session to be straightforward, and confirmation emails were promptly received. Additionally, the website’s professional design and consistent branding enhanced the overall experience.

Social media was another highlight, with the Instagram page providing helpful information, including an up-to-date class schedule in story highlights—something rare but highly appreciated. The posts were consistent with the brand’s aesthetic and values, and responses to messages were received within two hours.

The website lacked detailed coach bios and further directions beyond just the club’s address. Although email communications were professional and included the brand’s logo, they lacked additional strong branding elements, such as distinctive design or engaging content.

Overall, the seamless booking process, informative social media presence, and user-friendly website contributed to a positive impression.
