The Souk Story

Souk is a new addition to the NYC Yoga scene, since opening their single location in 2022 the brand has gained a notable fan base. Founder Rima Rabbath is a certified Jivamukti yoga teacher who spreads her passion for all things yoga through Souk. The teachers at the studio are extremely well versed in their specific style of yoga, with many studying abroad for years to gain a deeper understanding of the yogic arts.

How Did Souk Score Overall?

The full client experience at Souk was good, achieving our Recommended rating.

The class experience was positive and also achieved our Recommended rating.

Souk is featured in our article The Best Yoga Studios And Classes In New York.

The Highlights

For experienced yogis, the class was a standout, led by a passionate and attentive instructor.

The disco ball was something different for a yoga studio that made us smile!

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“I enjoyed the engaging warmup, which involved some chanting.”

“The coach clearly had a passion for yoga and enjoyed teaching.”

“The mic stopped working at one point, but the instructor handled it very calmly and professionally.”

What To Expect From A Souk Session

Souk, one of New York yoga scene’s newer additions, offers 65, 75 and 90-minute classes, as well as a 2-hour sound meditation session. Their instructor team offers some of the most well-known and popular yoga practices such as Jivamukti, Iyengar, Ashtanga as well as Vinyasa classes.

The Reception Service

The phone inquiry covered the basics about the studio, but lacked energy and enthusiasm. While the staff member confidently explained the facilities and pricing, the conversation was rushed.

On arrival, the receptionist greeted us promptly and completed the registration efficiently. A brief orientation pointed out key areas like the lockers and water refill station, but the setup felt informal. A little more guidance on where to wait before class would have made the experience smoother

At departure, there was no staff present to follow up or ask how we enjoyed the class. While the staff was knowledgeable during our visit, the lack of personalized interactions didn’t leave a lasting impression.

The Class Experience

Souk received our Recommended rating for the Class Experience.

The yoga class was led by a skilled instructor who clearly loved teaching. She connected with us through adjustments and cues, making the session smooth and engaging. While there were options for advanced poses, the class wasn’t particularly beginner-friendly—for example, there was no clear introduction or injury check. The late finish could have been inconvenient for anyone on a tight schedule.

The studio was set up efficiently, and we were welcomed in, but the experience could have been more personal. Learning our names or checking in with first-timers would have helped, and a quick class rundown at the start would have added structure.

Throughout the session, our instructor provided clear guidance and thoughtful adjustments, creating a positive atmosphere. However, the lack of breaks and an ambiguous flow between poses made it harder to pause when needed.

The class wrapped up with a cooldown and a warm thank-you, though there was no follow-up with first-timers. That said, the sense of community stood out, with friendly interactions and a welcoming vibe.

The Equipment And Studio

The studio featured a well-designed space and high-quality equipment that made for a great workout experience. Natural light from the windows, paired with dim lighting for ambiance, created a welcoming atmosphere. Unique touches like the altar, harmonium, candles, gongs, and even a disco ball gave the studio a strong sense of identity.

The equipment was clean and in excellent condition, though it lacked branding. The class layout felt crowded, with mats placed close together, limiting space for movement. That said, the environment was fresh and inviting, and the high-quality sound system added to the experience, leaving us with a positive overall impression.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The public areas were well-designed, featuring an industrial aesthetic with tiled floors, exposed pipes, and dark paint. Branding elements were limited to the studio name above the check-in desk, which could have been enhanced with additional touches throughout the space. Lockers with numerical locks were provided, and the area included a small changing room, two showers, and two restrooms.

Workout towels were not available, while shower towels were offered for $3 and thoughtfully handed to clients by staff. A complimentary water refill station was available, but there were no paid beverage options or snacks.

The showers were well-maintained, offering hot water and strong pressure, and came equipped with shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. However, the amenity selection in the locker room was minimal, consisting only of hand wash and lotion. The layout of the changing area was compact, with insufficient bench space to comfortably accommodate multiple people.

Digital And Technology

Booking a reservation was easy, and the club’s website provided plenty of helpful information. The landing page made it simple to access the schedule and FAQ section, which helped us feel prepared for our first visit. However, post-booking communication was lacking, with little guidance on late penalties or recommended arrival times.

The club’s social media presence was visually on-brand but not as informative as the website. Posts didn’t include class schedules or direct booking options. Emails were plain text, lacked branding, and came from a third-party system, making them feel disconnected from the club’s identity.

Live-stream classes were available.

Pricing

Souk offers students an introductory offer of one week of unlimited classes for $48.

If you’re looking for a longer-term commitment, an unlimited monthly membership is available for $280.

Drop-in sessions are available at $30 per class ($35 with a towel), as well as smaller commitment packages which range from a four-pack for $112 to a 20-pack for $500
