“The locker room was nicely designed with white lockers, wood accents and slate floors.”
What To Expect From A Modo Yoga Session
Modo Yoga NYC has something for everyone, no matter their ability level and preference. They have a wide range of classes, most of which are held in a heated room. Beginners are encouraged to start off in their Modo class, whilst there are more challenging classes such as the Modo Level 2, which offers short meditation and an extended savasana. Whatever the class, modifications are offered by qualified and attentive instructors.
The Reception Service
Our pre-visit calls were not answered.
Upon arrival, we received a warm and efficient check-in process. The receptionist greeted our evaluator promptly, ensured the registration was completed quickly, and offered a helpful verbal orientation of the studio layout. Thoughtful gestures, such as providing a mat and towel free of charge for our first visit, added a personal and welcoming touch.
The departure experience lacked proactivity, as we wer not asked about their class experience or encouraged to continue training with the studio. While the receptionist was knowledgeable and confident when discussing package options, they missed the opportunity to inquire about our needs or make a strong effort to close the sale. Despite these gaps, the staff’s friendly demeanor and professionalism were evident throughout the interaction, leaving a positive yet improvable impression.
The Class Experience
Modo Yoga NYC West Village received our Recommended rating for the Class Experience.
The class was well-structured, flowed smoothly, and provided a relaxing experience. Our instructor demonstrated professionalism and a solid understanding of yoga poses, offering clear instructions and modifications for participants to adjust based on their level. The warm-up and cooldown were effectively delivered, leaving participants feeling prepared and centered.
However, the class lacked personal engagement, as there was no effort to greet participants, check for injuries, or connect individually, especially with first-timers. Gulsah did not follow up after class, which would have added a more welcoming and personalized touch.
The Equipment And Studio
The studio provided a satisfying experience with its high-quality equipment and well-designed space. The large windows allowed natural light to fill the training area, creating a bright and inviting environment. The equipment was clean, in excellent condition, and fully stocked, catering to various ability levels.
However, the mat stations were placed very close together, which limited personal space during exercises. Additionally, the absence of branding elements in the studio reduced the sense of a distinctive identity.
The Facilities And Public Areas
The club's public areas were thoughtfully designed, offering a light, airy atmosphere that enhanced the overall experience. The use of natural light, wood accents, and greenery contributed to a calming, nature-inspired aesthetic. Consistent branding elements, including animal artwork and a boutique area with branded items, added to the space's cohesive feel. However, the limited amenities, especially for locker and grooming areas, detracted slightly from our overall impression.
The locker rooms and showers were clean and in good condition, with features like slate floors and white lockers elevating the design. However, issues such as hair in shower drains, peeling paint around toilet flushes, and holes in tiled walls indicated a need for more attention to detail. Amenities were minimal, with only hand wash and ear buds available, falling short of expectations for a premium facility. Towels were provided but charged at $2 for rental, with some showing signs of wear, such as ripped seams.
Food and beverage options were a standout, with offerings such as protein bars, coconut water, and kombucha. Complimentary water at a refill station was also appreciated, ensuring hydration needs were met. While the waiting area was spacious and comfortable, music and sensory elements like calming sounds or scents could further enhance the ambiance.
Digital And Technology
The club delivered a polished and professional digital experience. The reservation process was seamless, with the website offering a user-friendly interface and clear navigation to book classes or packages. We felt well-prepared for our visit, as key details like arrival expectations and cancellation policies were clearly communicated. The presence of coach bios, class schedules, and a strong representation of the brand's values further enhanced the website's appeal. Social media pages were regularly updated and offered a balanced mix of promotional and informative content, effectively representing the client experience.
However, the primary website navigation was occasionally challenging due to menu functionality issues, which detracted from the otherwise intuitive experience. Additionally, while automatic emails included branding elements like logos and colors, they lacked distinct tone and enhanced branding features that could reinforce the club's identity.
