The F45 Story

F45 is a well-known Australian circuit training franchise founded in 2012 by Rob Deutsch and Adam Gilchrist in Sydney. Today, the brand stands at over 1,750 locations across 45 countries, and was one of the first boutique franchises to IPO on the New York stock exchange in 2019.

F45’s success has received celebrity endorsements from the likes of Hugh Jackman in their early days, as well as Mark Wahlberg, who is also an investor in the company.

Their tagline “team training, life changing”, is reflected in their community-focused workouts that are catered to all fitness levels.

The Highlights

The overall client experience was very smooth during our entire anonymous evaluation, right from when we entered the studio up until the time we left.

The club's very on-point branding was also a standout.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“The coach went above and beyond the prescribed exercises on the screen, giving great individual attention to make sure everyone was working at the right level for them.”

“Words of encouragement were meaningful and personalized.”

“The screens that displayed the timer, visual demonstration of each exercise, and the flow of the workout were impressive.”

What To Expect From An F45 Session

The name stands for “Functional Training 45”, with sessions being a mix of functional HIIT and strength exercises delivered in a 45-minute format. Each day, the workout is predetermined by F45 HQ and is the same at every F45 location worldwide.

Their Saturday “Hollywood” sessions are the only 60-minute class and are famous for hiring local DJs to create a party atmosphere and bring the community together.

Workouts are typically run by two or more coaches per class. To support the coach, clients are guided by screens that display each exercise as well as beeps and graphics that cue you to work, rest or move to your next station.

The Reception Service

We were unable to contact the studio by phone, despite multiple attempts.

At the club, the reception service we received was smooth and created a welcoming first impression. The arrival was well-handled, with a prompt greeting from the head coach and a thorough, unrushed orientation provided by the receptionist. Key areas, such as the training floor, lockers, and wet areas, were explained clearly, and our evaluator was invited to wait comfortably before the class began. Our name was used during interactions, and follow-up after the class demonstrated engagement and a friendly demeanor.

After class, although staff appeared comfortable and knowledgeable when discussing package options, no proactive effort was made to guide us toward booking our next class or purchasing a package.

The Class Experience

F45 Lower East Side received The Fit Guide’s prestigious and highest 5-Star Class Experience Award, highlighting one of the very best class experiences in New York.

Our coach delivered an exceptional class experience, exceeding expectations by providing personalized coaching and meaningful engagement throughout the session. His effort to connect with each participant, particularly first-timers, demonstrated a strong commitment to creating a welcoming and effective workout environment. Individual progressions and adjustments beyond the standard program highlighted his expertise and attentiveness, ensuring the session met varying fitness levels and goals.

The class flowed seamlessly, with clear instructions and a well-prepared setup. The coach's enthusiasm, combined with dynamic music and an engaging atmosphere, made the workout both enjoyable and impactful. The post-class follow-up with first-timers was appreciated.

Overall, our coach's thoughtful approach, professionalism, and energy made this a highly impressive experience.

The Equipment And Studio

The studio delivered a highly impressive experience, showcasing a seamless integration of branding and functionality. The entire space was exceptionally fresh, aesthetically pleasing, and aligned with the studio's brand identity. Equipment quality was outstanding, with all items clean, in excellent working condition, and thoughtfully designed. The inclusion of branded elements, such as colored weights, clearly marked kettlebells, and Concept2 bikes and ski ergs, was a bonus.

The studio environment provided ample space for safe and effective exercise. The fresh and comfortable workout setting, complemented by floor-to-ceiling windows and well-designed lighting, added to the overall appeal. A large backlit mural and consistent use of brand colors and fonts reinforced the brand's identity throughout the space.

The soundsystem was high quality, ensuring an immersive workout atmosphere. This, combined with the well-stocked and conveniently arranged equipment, catered to participants of all ability levels.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The public areas of the studio were well-maintained, offering a clean, comfortable, and professional environment. The wide range of well-stocked amenities in the changing areas was a standout feature.Complimentary workout and shower towels available.

The studio's design incorporated branded elements effectively, particularly on the training floor, creating a cohesive brand identity. However, the absence of notable design or sensory features in the changing rooms was noted. The lack of seating in the waiting area and limited shower availability could be a drawback for some, especially during peak times.

Amenities such as vending machine options for beverages and healthy snacks were available. The showers were clean, offered consistent water pressure, and included essential toiletries.

Digital And Technology

We were impressed with the overall digital experience, particularly the in-class screens that displayed a timer, exercise demonstrations, and workout flow updates, enhancing clarity and engagement. The studio's website was intuitive and professional, providing clear class descriptions and brand values.

The booking process was straightforward, with clear communication about cancellation policies. Email communications were professional but lacked a distinct brand representation.
