In-class technology rounded off a slickly delivered concept.
What Our Evaluator Had To Say
“The coach talked me through each of the stations concisely, which helped me feel comfortable as soon as I got onto the workout floor.”
“I liked that the workout allowed us a lot of independence while training, but with the coaches still offering guidance when they see it's needed.”
“Staff made sure to find out all of the important details about my training history and goals, helping me feel confident that the coaches were tailoring the session to me.”
What to Expect From A UBX Session
UBX, which is pronounced “you-box”, delivers their signature mix of boxing, conditioning and strength training in a 12-round circuit. With workouts lasting 45 minutes, you’ll spend 3 minutes on each session with an even split of six boxing stations and six functional strength and conditioning stations.
For the boxing stations, you can expect bag work on one-to-one pad work with a UBX coach. For the functional stations, you’ll use tools such as dumbbells, bodyweight movements and battle ropes.
To help deliver long-term results and avoid plateaus, training is delivered in seven-week blocks that go through phases such as ‘Strength’ and ‘Power’.
With UBX, a big benefit for many is that there are no scheduled class times - you simply turn up and jump into the circuit.
The Reception Service
Our pre-visit calls to the branch went unanswered.
On arrival, we were promptly greeted by our coach, who was also in charge of checking us in. The details of our class were confirmed and we were informed we needed hand wraps for the session, which we purchased.
After the class, the team asked us questions to better understand our training needs, and were confident going through the membership options.
The Class Experience
UBX North Sydney received The Fit Guide 4-Star Class Experience Award, making it one of Sydney’s stand-out offerings.
Our session was made up of 12 rounds of boxing, strength and cardio exercises, with each round lasting three minutes. Each station was clearly outlined, had ample space and equipment, and included a large TV screen with visual demonstrations of the exercises as well as a timer.
The coach who started our session switched halfway through the class, but this was done seamlessly and without disruption. Both coaches helped deliver a good session, offering personalized instructions throughout.
The Equipment And Studio
The equipment was high quality and in overall good condition. The studio space contained UBX branding and was largely clean.
The Facilities And Public Areas
Towels and lockers were not provided at the club, although free water refill stations were available.
Digital And Technology
Each UBX studio has screens displaying which movements and exercises are coming up, which keeps everyone on track and is especially helpful for newcomers to the concept.
Outside of the workout, the brand’s website was designed sleekly and was easy to navigate, offering a smooth first-time booking process.
