The F45 Story

F45 is a well-known Australian circuit training franchise founded in 2012 by Rob Deutsch and Adam Gilchrist in Sydney. Today, the brand stands at over 1,750 locations across 45 countries, and was one of the first boutique franchises to IPO on the New York stock exchange in 2019.

The Highlights

Every member of staff we encountered was warm and friendly, and the four coaches leading the class helped us receive a high level of individual care and attention.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“The coaches were energetic and made sure that I was pushing myself to just the right level.”

“The session was easy to follow and the structure of the class was explained well during the introduction.”

“The coaches greeted me as soon as I arrived at the studio and showed interest in me and my goals.”

What to Expect From An F45 Session

The name stands for “Functional Training 45”, with sessions being a mix of functional HIIT and strength exercises delivered in a 45-minute format. Each day, the workout is predetermined by F45 HQ and is the same at every F45 location worldwide.

Their Saturday “Hollywood” sessions are the only 60-minute class and are famous for hiring local DJs to create a party atmosphere and bring the community together.

Workouts are typically run by two or more coaches per class. To support the coach, clients are guided by screens that display each exercise as well as beeps and graphics that cue them to work, rest or move to their next station.

The Reception Service

Our pre-visit calls to the branch went unanswered. On arrival, we had to wait outside as there was another class still running.

Registration was completed outside of the studio and the staff were friendly, helpful and warm. They asked questions about our training goals and exercise history which helped us feel ready and prepared for a good session.

After the class, the coaches were confident when providing information about membership options.

The Class Experience

F45 Woolloomooloo received The Fit Guide 4-Star Class Experience Award, making it one of Sydney’s stand-out offerings.

The four coaches present in the studio made for an unusually high level of care and attention. The previous class ran a little late, causing our session to start late, but once we were up and running the coaching team was friendly, enthusiastic and offered many words of personal and group encouragement.

The energy was high and positive, with the community vibe felt strongly when the coaches helped introduce members to each other.

The Equipment And Studio

The equipment was all in perfect working order, but a little worn in places. The classic F45 branding was present throughout the space.

The Facilities And Public Areas

Lockers were provided with key locks. Towels and free water refill stations were not available.

The club consisted of a single room which made up the workout space. The waiting area was located outside of the club and was clean with plenty of seating. Showers and toilets were located outside of the club.

Digital And Technology

The online booking process was simple and aided by the branded F45 app. The website structure was functional and easy to navigate, although it did lack some features, such as bios for the coaches.

The club used F45’s signature screen technology to display the workouts, which clearly demonstrated each exercise and what’s coming up next.
