The F45 Story

F45 is a well-known Australian circuit training franchise founded in 2012 by Rob Deutsch and Adam Gilchrist in Sydney. Today, the brand stands at over 1,750 locations across 45 countries, and was one of the first boutique franchises to IPO on the New York stock exchange in 2019.

F45’s success has received celebrity endorsements from the likes of Hugh Jackman in their early days, as well as Mark Wahlberg, who is also an investor in the company.

Their  tagline “team training, life changing”, is reflected in their community-focused workouts that are catered to all fitness levels.

How Did F45 Boat Quay Score Overall?

The full client experience at F45 Boat Quay was excellent, achieving The Fit Guide 4-Star Award.

The class was also very good, and has won our 4-Star Class Experience Award.

The Highlights

The coach’s effort to connect with everyone was a highlight of the experience. It looked like he was having a great time and his energy was infectious.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“The coach did a great job of connecting with everyone in the class. He seemed to know most by name, which definitely contributed to the community vibe”

“The coach was smiling throughout and looked like he thoroughly enjoyed leading the session.”

“The coach was also the receptionist, but he balanced these duties well.”

What to Expect From An F45 Boat Quay Session

The name stands for “Functional Training 45”, with sessions being a mix of functional HIIT and strength exercises delivered in a 45-minute format. Each day, the workout is predetermined by F45 HQ and is the same at every F45 location worldwide.

Their Saturday “Hollywood” sessions are the only 60-minute class and are famous for hiring local DJs to create a party atmosphere and bring the community together.

Workouts are typically run by two or more coaches per class. To support the coach, clients are guided by screens that display each exercise as well as beeps and graphics that cue you to work, rest or move to your next station.

The Reception Service

Our pre-visit calls to the branch were not answered. On arrival, the coach was handling the check-in duties and did a good job of welcoming us to the facility and concept by showing us around the space and asking us if we had tried F45 before.

After the session, the coach was comfortable talking through the continued training options and encouraged us to come back to the club by booking another workout in.

The Class Experience

F45 Boat Quay received The Fit Guide 4-Star Class Experience Award, making it one of Singapore’s stand-out offerings.

The class experience started when we arrived at the studio, with the coach making the effort to get to know our training history and show us around the space. Once the class started, the coach’s energy and enthusiasm contributed to a lively and fun environment.

During the explanation, it was hard to hear the coach at times as the space was large and no mic was used. The session finished a few minutes late.

The Equipment And Studio

The studio space was quite large and afforded enough room to do all the exercises comfortably. There were numerous brand features throughout the studio and on the equipment, but some cleanliness and condition issues were noted.

The Facilities And Public Areas

Workout and shower towels were provided free of charge. Lockers were not provided, with items being stored in cubby holes. Free water refill stations were available.

The changing space was small and basic, but there were shower units available.

Digital And Technology

The tech-based screens made the workout easy to follow and also helped countdown the time until the next class which kept things organized. The website was easy to navigate and booking a session was seamless. The social media pages were updated regularly and provided good insight into the client experience.
