The Box Office Story

Box Office Fitness is a Singapore-based, boxing-inspired group fitness studio founded by Nerissa Assudani and Abel Marcus Koh. The concept emerged from a shared desire to make exercise both effective and genuinely enjoyable, evolving from a casual idea into a structured studio format focused on accessibility and energy rather than traditional combat-gym intensity.

The brand operates on the belief that fitness should feel entertaining, with classes designed to deliver a high-output workout in an inclusive, non-intimidating environment. Its signature 45-minute “Knockout” classes combine boxing-inspired cardio and strength training through timed rounds alternating between floor work and striking water-filled Aqua bags, set to upbeat music and immersive lighting.

Box Office Fitness currently operates from its flagship studio at 19 Carpenter Street, following a relocation from its earlier North Canal Road site. Growth has been driven through community engagement, positioning the studio as a welcoming entry point into boxing-style fitness within Singapore’s boutique scene.

How Did Box Office Carpenter Street Score Overall?

The full client experience at Box Office Carpenter Street was good, achieving The Fit Guide Award Of Excellence.

The class was also notable and has winning our Class Experience Award of Excellence.

The Highlights

The energetic, music-fuelled class experience was the clear standout, combining great coaching, movement variety, and atmosphere.

The “What to Expect” video and smooth online booking process also impressed, making it easy for newcomers to feel confident before stepping into the studio.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“I loved the energy in the room — it felt powerful, motivating, and fun from start to finish.”

“The website was slick and easy to use, and that intro video really helped me know what to expect.”

“The front desk was polite, but it just didn’t match the buzz and warmth of the class itself.”

What to Expect From A Box Office Session

Classes at Box Office faollow a 45-minute format built around ten three-minute rounds, alternating between boxing on Aqua Bags and strength or HIIT-style floor work. The structure delivers a balanced full-body workout that targets power, endurance and coordination, driven by music and lighting that keep the pace high. Each round brings a different combination of movements, which helps maintain momentum and avoids the session feeling repetitive.

The schedule includes formats such as Knockout, Overdrive and Grit, each placing a slightly different emphasis on boxing skill, conditioning or endurance. First-timers attend a brief induction before class covering stance and punching basics, which helps build confidence and makes the experience accessible even without prior boxing experience.

The Reception Service

Arrival at Box Office Canal Street was efficient but fairly flat. Check-in was quick, with staff confirming our booking and pointing us toward the lockers and studio, but the interaction stayed strictly functional. There was little conversation and no acknowledgement of us as first-timers. We were informed that hand wraps had to be purchased and that complimentary water wasn’t available.

After class, there wasn't much interaction beyond a polite goodbye. While everything was handled professionally, the reception service felt transactional rather than engaging.

The Class Experience

Box Office Carpenter Street received our Class Experience Award of Excellence.

The class itself was where Box Office came into its own. The energy in the room stayed high throughout, with the coach setting a strong pace and keeping everyone moving. The mix of boxing and strength work struck a good balance between intensity and variety, and the music and lighting helped drive the session without feeling overdone. It was the kind of class where the time passes quickly because there is always something new coming up.

The first-timer induction was clear and well handled, with a solid explanation of the structure and key movements. During the workout, individual coaching was more limited, as the coach spent much of the time circulating rather than stopping for hands-on guidance. Even so, his enthusiasm stayed consistent, the encouragement landed well, and the session wrapped up with a controlled cooldown that brought things to a positive close.

The Equipment And Studio

The studio had a modern boxing feel, with neatly arranged equipment and clear branding throughout. Numbered stations and wall prompts made setup straightforward, even for first timers, and the coloured LED light strips along the low ceiling gave the room a club-like edge. The sound system was crisp and loud enough to drive the session without overwhelming the space.

Everything was tidy and in good working order, though the studio was fairly compact and light on architectural features. Smudged mirrors and some scuffed paint around the walls took some of the polish away. Even so, the lighting, layout and overall design created an atmosphere that felt energetic, functional and clearly on brand.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The reception area was bright and welcoming, with plenty of space and personality. Light-up signage, modern décor and slogans like “The first rule of fight club” brought the brand’s playful spirit to life. A small balcony with seating offered a relaxed spot to wait before class, and the overall layout was easy to navigate.

The changing and shower areas didn’t quite match the polish of the front-of-house spaces. The area felt tight, with surfaces showing wear, visible marks in the showers and basic curtains. Grooming stations looked cluttered, although lockers were clean and easy to use, towels were complimentary and the amenities provided were useful.

Digital And Technology

Booking a class at Box Office Canal Street was quick and straightforward, with a clean, easy-to-use website that clearly explained the process and what first-timers should expect. The “What to Expect” video stood out, doing a solid job of preparing newcomers for the pace, structure and energy of the class.

The website captured the brand’s bold, playful tone, and the boxing technique content was clear and useful. That said, the absence of trainer bios and irregular social media updates made it harder to connect with the wider community. Confirmation emails arrived promptly but felt fairly plain and did not reflect the same personality as the website. Overall, the digital experience was efficient and informative, with room to bring more consistency and character across all touchpoints.
