Physique 57 - Soho

New York City, USA

The Physique 57 Story

Physique 57 was founded in 2006 by Jennifer Vaughan Maanavi and Tanya Becker. The first Physique 57 studio was opened in New York City in the heart of the fashion district on West 57th Street. The founders created the method by combining their backgrounds in dance, Pilates, and physical therapy to create a workout that focused on strengthening and lengthening the body. The popularity of their classes quickly grew, and the company expanded to additional locations in New York City and Los Angeles before branching out internationally.

They now have a presence in four countries: India, Thailand, the UAE, and its primary market, the United States. As the industry recovers, they are looking at further expansion into other markets. Notably, Physique 57 offers a robust "video on demand" feature, enabling clients to participate in the tight-knit community and experience their premium barre workout from anywhere.

How Did Physique 57 Score Soho Overall?

The full client experience at Physique 57 Soho was outstanding, achieving our highest The Fit Guide 5-Star Award.

The class was also very impressive, winning our prestigious and highest 5-Star Class Experience Award.

Physique 57 Soho is featured in our articles The Best Barre Studios In New York, Reviewed And Rated and The Top Fitness Studios In New York, Independently Rated and Ranked.

The Highlights

The class experience was one of the very best we experienced in New York. It was delivered by an enthusiastic and professional instructor who methodically, but very personably, led a true five-star experience befitting of its award and recognition.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“Our class was a fantastic, almost flawless experience from start to finish.”

“Our instructor spoke to me before the class, really getting to know me and my training history before we started.”

“She was very enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed teaching. This energy was infectious!”

What To Expect From A Physique 57 Session

A typical Physique 57 session is a full body workout that is 57-minutes long and offers their signature approach to barre. Their classes are high intensity, low impact and can be adjusted to all ability levels by an experienced and well-trained instructor team.

Some of their movements will use just your body weight, whereas others use training tools such as light dumbbells or soft balls that are used to strengthen and build muscle. One of their trademark techniques is to “pulse” small movements repeatedly to target small, often underused muscle groups.

Class types include Sculpt for beginners, Power Sculpt for intermediate practitioners or Power Sculpt Lab for a more advanced challenge. They also have a range of online classes available.

The Reception Service

Our pre-visit calls to the club were unanswered. The in-branch service was warm and friendly and their team did a good job of helping us to continue training.

The Class Experience

Physique 57 Soho has achieved The Fit Guide 5-Star Class Experience Award for an exceptional class, putting it amongst the very best in New York and industry.

Delightful touches were sprinkled through the experience. This started with a meaningful connection pre-class, and ended with a follow up after the session on how our first class was. During the class, we received a little extra special attention as we were new to, and unfamiliar with, the concept.

It was, in summary, one of the most well-delivered class experiences in New York and every bit deserving of its 5-Star Class Experience award.

The Equipment And Studio

The equipment and studio was clean and in great condition, with subtle branding touches throughout the well-lit studio.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The public areas were spacious and nicely designed. There was an array of amenities available. There were, however, no showers available.

Workout towels were provided free of charge. Lockers were provided with number locks. Free water refill stations were available.

Digital And Technology

The website does a good job of communicating the concept and Physique 57’s values. They also offer an extensive and popular online training program for those that cannot make it to their in-real-life experience. The email communications leading up to the class could have got us more excited with more inspiring and lively imagery and wording.
