The Work Train Fight Story

Work Train Fight (“WTF”) is a boxing and strength training concept founded in 2009 by Alberto Oritz, who turned his tough upbringing in the South Bronx into a positive mission to help people build mental and physical strength. WTF, situated in the NoHo district, is a space that’s accessible to all and has stripped away the intimidating environment that’s often associated with boxing gyms.

This doesn’t mean a WTF session is going to be easy - they’ve struck a balance between accessibility and toughness which has brought in people from all backgrounds and ability levels.

The class experience earned our Rated score.

The Highlights

Our phone call really got us pumped for the visit and the reception staff on departure were very friendly. Our coach was energetic and had the fundamentals to be very good.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“I enjoyed the class and found it fun and energetic.”

“The coach did a great job of adjusting the ability level to each participant, adjusting his pad work to each individual.”

“There was a nice community vibe, with some members fist-bumping the reception staff on the way out.”

What To Expect From A Work Train Fight Session

Work Train Fight fuses strength training, conditioning and boxing. They offer classes that are strictly boxing, for both all levels and intermediate upwards, as well as classes focused on strength and conditioning where you’ll use tools such as TRX, medicine balls and weights along with boxing conditioning drills. There’s also a boxing ring in the club for more advanced contact training.

All ability levels are warmly welcomed and personal training is available as an extra service for those that want to sharpen their skills and fitness.

The Reception Service

Our pre-visit call was informative and got us excited for our session. When we arrived the check-in process was rather basic but the departure had a lot more energy, with the reception staff asking us about our class and encouraging us to come back to train.

The Class Experience

Work Train Fight received our Rated score for the Class Experience.

The class had an energetic and fun vibe, but it was unfortunately let down in some areas. The class started and finished late, the coach became distracted a few times and was seen on his phone and more explanation on the structure and format would have been useful for the first timers.

The Equipment And Studio

The studio was nicely designed and there was a wide array of equipment available.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The public areas had an attractive design and there was a nice selection of amenities available. Some areas were a little worn in places and our towel had a few stains on it.

Workout and shower towels were provided free of charge. Lockers were provided but clients must provide their own locks. Free water refill stations were available.

Digital And Technology

Their social presence was very strong, offering a strong sense of the brand and what we could expect from a class. However, we had some trouble booking the session, with a few error messages and a lack of confirmation email leaving us unclear on whether the session had been booked.

Pricing

Work Train Fight offers a discounted three class introductory package for the price of $75.

If you’re looking for a longer-term commitment, memberships are available from $160 for full gym access, up to $220 for full gym access as well as a WTF class every day of the month.

Drop-in sessions are available at $42 per class, with smaller commitment packages also available, starting at a five pack for $190.
