The The Bar Method Story

The Bar Method was founded in 2001 by Burr Leonard. An avid lover of ballet and jazz classes, Burr took inspiration from the Lotte Berk Method to create her own unique approach that she found had great results in creating strong, lean, toned, and healthy bodies.

The very first flagship studio opened in San Francisco and was an instant hit, offering a place where people from different backgrounds - but with a connected mindset - could get stronger together. This powerful community soon ignited growth through a franchise model, with clients becoming hooked on the method before “graduating" to become an instructor or studio owner.

The Bar Method and community has now surpassed 100 locations across North America and is still growing, realizing Burr’s vision of helping “brave and brilliant” entrepreneurs pursue their passion and impact more people.

What to Expect From A The Bar Method Session

A typical Bar Method session is a 60-minute barre workout designed to sculpt and strengthen your entire body. The low-impact, high-intensity class emphasizes precise movements and alignment for maximum effectiveness.

Using ballet bars, light weights, resistance bands, and mats, classes blend strength training, stretching, and cardio to improve flexibility and posture. Expert instructors provide hands-on adjustments and modifications, making the workout suitable for all ability levels.

Class types include Classic Barre for beginners, Advanced Barre for experienced practitioners, and Bar Express for a shorter, high-energy session.

The Reception Service

Our call to the club was answered quickly, with clear and helpful information, though it lacked a personal touch.

On arrival, the staff greeted us warmly and handled check-in smoothly, offering a helpful orientation that made us feel comfortable and prepared. After class, they were friendly and professional, providing detailed membership info when asked, though more of an effort could have been made to encourage a return visit.

The Class Experience

The Bar Method Cobble Hill has received our prestigious 5-Star Class Experience Award making it truly industry-leading.

Our instructor created a welcoming and connected atmosphere, making a strong effort to engage with everyone in the room. First-timers got extra attention, with personalized guidance and thoughtful adjustments that made the session easy to follow and enjoyable.

The upbeat music and smooth class flow kept the energy high, while the instructor’s friendly approach and constant encouragement made us feel supported and motivated. We left feeling strong and looking forward to our next session.

The Equipment And Studio

The training room exuded a cozy and luxurious feel, with plush carpeting, soft lighting from sconces, and wooden barres in excellent condition. Mirrored walls and large windows brought in natural light while maintaining privacy, enhancing the room's balletic aesthetic. Branded props and high-quality equipment were neatly arranged, contributing to a clean and elegant environment.

The Facilities And Public Areas

Lockers with key-lock bracelets made storage easy, and free workout and shower towels were a nice perk. Water refill stations were available, though there weren’t any food options or electrolyte drinks on hand.

The public areas felt plush and inviting, with high-end touches that elevated the experience. Thoughtfully curated details like Literie candles, Lululemon apparel, and People’s Beauty skincare reinforced the club’s sleek, lifestyle-focused brand. The modern design, natural light, and soft upward lighting created a stylish yet comfortable vibe that made us want to linger a little longer.

Digital And Technology

The website was smooth and easy to navigate, with clear information and a seamless booking process. Emails felt personal and on-brand, ensuring we were well-prepared for our first visit. Social media was active, visually aligned with the brand, and quick to respond to inquiries.

The club also offered a branded app and on-demand digital classes, though no additional tech was integrated into the in-class experience. Simple, effective, and user-friendly.
