The Physique 57 Story

Physique 57 was founded in 2006 by Jennifer Vaughan Maanavi and Tanya Becker. The first Physique 57 studio was opened in New York City in the heart of the fashion district on West 57th Street. The founders created the method by combining their backgrounds in dance, Pilates, and physical therapy to create a workout that focused on strengthening and lengthening the body. The popularity of their classes quickly grew, and the company expanded to additional locations in New York City and Los Angeles before branching out internationally.

They now have a presence in four countries: India, Thailand, the UAE, and its primary market, the United States. As the industry recovers, they are looking at further expansion into other markets. Notably, Physique 57 offers a robust "video on demand" feature, enabling clients to participate in the tight-knit community and experience their premium barre workout from anywhere.

What to Expect From A Physique 57 Session

A typical Physique 57 session is a 57-minute barre workout that combines strength training, cardio, and stretching for a dynamic, full-body experience. Their signature method focuses on small, controlled movements and their trademark “pulse” technique to tone and sculpt muscles.

Classes use body weight, light dumbbells, resistance bands, and exercise balls to target specific muscle groups, including underused muscles that often go unnoticed in traditional workouts. The low-impact, high-intensity format is designed to deliver results and improve flexibility, posture, and strength.

Each class is led by experienced instructors who provide personalized guidance and modifications, ensuring a safe and effective workout for all fitness levels.

Class types include Sculpt for beginners, Power Sculpt for intermediate participants, and Advanced Power Sculpt for those seeking a greater challenge. Virtual and on-demand classes are also available.

The Class Experience

Physique 57 60th & 5th has received The Fit Guide 5-Star Class Experience Award, making it a world-leading experience.

During our anonymous visit, our instructor created an engaging and supportive atmosphere that made everyone feel welcome. They took the time to connect with us personally, ensuring we felt confident and prepared, while offering clear instructions and thoughtful adjustments to match our fitness levels.

The session flowed smoothly, with well-structured transitions and plenty of encouragement along the way. With their approachable energy and genuine engagement before, during, and after class, our instructor made the experience both rewarding and enjoyable—we left feeling strong and already looking forward to our next visit!

The Reception Service

Our call to the club was smooth and informative, with the receptionist confidently walking us through class options and membership details. A bit more personalization—like using our name—would’ve made it even better, but overall, it was a solid first impression.

At the studio, the front desk team was friendly and efficient, getting us checked in quickly and giving a brief tour of the space. While the process was seamless, the interaction felt a little transactional. After class, though, they were approachable and well-informed, answering our questions about packages with ease.

The Equipment And Studio

The training room was spotless and well-organized, with a sleek design that made the whole experience feel a little more elevated. Equipment was conveniently arranged, mostly in top shape, and easy to grab when we needed it—no awkward shuffling around mid-workout.

Branding was woven into the space effortlessly, from the color palette and logos to the motivational phrases on the mirrors that kept us pushing through. The studio felt bright, spacious, and just the right temperature, with brownstone-style windows and natural light, adding a cool, local touch. Everything was meticulously maintained, making it easy to stay focused and fully enjoy the session.

The Facilities And Public Areas

We had everything we needed to feel taken care of—lockers with number locks, free shower towels, and workout towels available for rent at just $2. Staying hydrated was easy with complimentary water refill stations, plus some paid options like bottled water and protein bites for a quick refuel.

The studio itself had a sleek, high-end vibe, with marble counters and floor-to-ceiling curtains in the changing area adding a touch of luxury. The branding was on point throughout, making the space feel polished and cohesive. A little clearer signage at the entrance would’ve made things even smoother, but once inside, it was nothing short of premium.

Digital And Technology

The website was smooth and easy to use, with a clean design that matched the brand’s aesthetic. We found everything we needed—detailed instructor bios, clear class schedules, and even a blog with fresh content. Booking was a breeze, with an intuitive system and instant email confirmation to lock in our spot.

Social media kept the brand vibe strong, featuring studio visuals and regular updates. Emails felt personal and professional, and the club’s branded app made booking seamless—plus, on-demand workouts were a solid bonus for those who cannot always make it in person.
