The OrangeTheory Fitness Story

The first Orangetheory Fitness (“OTF”) studio was founded in 2010 by Ellen Latham, Jerome Kern, and David Long in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. These were early days in the boutique fitness revolution and OTF has since seen massive expansion across the States and into other markets worldwide, with over 1,500 locations opened and many more due to open. The chain has hit some big milestones over the last few years, surpassing $1 billion in sales in 2018 and hitting 1 million members in 2020. Today, OTF operates as a franchise model in over 25 countries.

Known for its focus on heart rate training and technology, the ‘orange’ in their name is a nod to the orange heart rate zone which their members are coached to stay within during the class.

The Orangetheory experience is so much more than a workout - it’s just as much about community, inclusivity and connection, highlighted by their ethos of “Our Coaches Are More than Just Coaches”.

What to Expect From An Orangetheory Fitness Session

A typical Orangetheory Fitness session is a 60-minute workout combining cardio, rowing, and strength training. Their heart rate-monitored classes are designed to maximize calorie burn and build endurance, strength, and power.

Participants alternate between treadmill intervals, water rowing, and resistance exercises using dumbbells and TRXs. The goal is to spend 12 or more minutes in the "Orange Zone," where your heart rate is elevated for optimal calorie burn.

Class types include Signature Full Body, Lift 45 for strength-focused sessions, and Endurance, Strength, and Power days to vary the intensity.

The Reception Service

Our phone inquiry made a strong first impression, with a professional and enthusiastic receptionist who clearly knew the studio inside and out. They explained class formats, equipment, and membership options while also taking the time to ask about our fitness routine, making the interaction feel personal.

Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, and check-in was smooth, taking less than three minutes. A thorough tour covered all the essentials, and the staff worked seamlessly to answer questions and make us feel welcome. While there wasn’t a strong push to continue training after class, they provided helpful package details in a relaxed, non-pushy way, leaving us with a positive overall experience.
