The Mile High Run Club Story

Mile High Run Club was founded in 2014 by David Robinson, Debora Warner, and William Heath, offering New York’s first dedicated boutique indoor running concept in the Upper East Side. They have since expanded to three locations in the city, with studios also in Noho and Nomad. The brand, often abbreviated to “MHRC”, also organizes outdoor runs and has a location in Drop Fitness in Montvale, New Jersey.

Their coaching team is made up of accomplished runners who are true experts on the sport, which means you don’t just get a motivating session, you’ll also get tips and advice on correct and effective running technique.

What To Expect From A Mile High Run Club Session

Mile High Run Club (often abbreviated to MHRC) has, as you would expect from the name, a big focus on running. To support their commitment to New York's runners, they’ve invested in top-of-the-range Woodway treadmills which offer a rugged feel similar to outdoor running. Strength is an important element of being a good runner, so MHRC has added in resistance training into some of their sessions.

In DIRTY 30, their shortest session, you can expect to run 2-4 miles over 30 minutes; HIGH 45 is interval training over 45 minutes covering 3-6 miles and with their DISTANCE class, you’ll hit a full hour and roughly 5-7+ miles.

If you want to add strength work to your run, go for their 45-minute DASH STRENGTH class which mixes 30 minutes of interval running with 15 minutes of kettlebell and running-focused strength training.

The Reception Service

The phone inquiry was handled with enthusiasm, and the receptionist demonstrated solid knowledge about the club, but some inaccurate details about class formats affected the overall impression.

On arrival, the receptionist was friendly, polite, and efficient, making check-in quick and providing a basic orientation of the facilities. However, the interaction felt a bit transactional, lacking a personal or welcoming touch.

After class, there was no follow-up to ask about our experience, and the interactions remained functional rather than engaging. A bit more effort to connect with guests would have elevated the experience.

The Class Experience

Mile High Run Club UES received The Fit Guide Class Experience Award of Excellence, making it one of New York’s stand-out offerings.

We were used to running outdoors, so was intrigued about what to expect from a running-only indoor class. We were pleasantly surprised with how enjoyable it was and enjoyed the high-intensity workout. The high-energy cardio class provided a fun and engaging experience, enhanced by music and lighting that complemented the workout's intensity. The coach was professional and confident, delivering clear instructions and ensuring the session ran smoothly. His explanations of running posture and technique demonstrated a solid knowledge base, while the structured format and well-paced intervals kept the session flowing seamlessly.

While the induction was helpful for first-timers, there was no injury check and more personalized attention, such as learning clients' names or discussing training goals, would have been appreciated.

The studio fostered a sense of community, with visible efforts like event boards and a photo wall. The coach's follow-up with us after class was a positive touch, though asking about their goals or intention to return could have strengthened the connection.

The Equipment And Studio

The training area featured high-quality equipment, including Woodway cardio machines, and was in excellent condition. The space was clean, well-maintained, and provided ample room for safe and effective movement, ensuring a comfortable workout environment.

The lighting and music enhanced the overall atmosphere, but the lack of branding elements in the training area made the space feel a bit plain.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The club provided a functional and clean environment, with a focus on practicality over style. While the industrial design elements, such as exposed piping and concrete walls, were consistent, the space lacked distinctive branding or notable design features to create a strong sense of arrival or elevate the experience.

The changing areas were well-maintained, with a good selection of amenities including moisturizers, deodorant, cotton buds, and earplugs. Shower facilities were clean, offered complimentary towels, and included premium toiletries. Lockers with numerical locks were conveniently provided, though they lacked hangers. Complimentary water refill stations were available, along with energy drinks for purchase.

Digital And Technology

The online booking process was seamless and user-friendly, with detailed schedules and coach bios available on the website. However, there was little information addressing the brand’s values or mission. The website’s design was clean and intuitive.

Email communications featured the brand’s logo but could have felt more personalized, especially in pre-arrival and marketing emails. Text messages were professional and timely, though class schedules weren’t accessible through social media links.

The use of Mariana Tek as a management platform and an on-demand training app added to the convenience.

Pricing

Mile High Run Club offers an introductory deal of two classes for $40 for first-timers.

If you’re looking for a longer-term commitment, memberships are available from $175 for eight classes per month up to $249 for unlimited classes.

Drop-in sessions are available at $40 per class, with smaller commitment packages also available, starting at a four-pack for $125.
