The Reception Service

When we called the club, we received clear information about the class format, facilities, and first-visit pricing. The phone interaction felt a bit transactional, however; receptionist was polite and professional, but didn’t guide the conversation or personalize the exchange. Instead of offering a full overview, she referred us to the website, which made the call feel less engaging than it could’ve been.

At the studio, we were warmly greeted and welcomed right away. The receptionist acknowledged it was our first time and gave us a helpful and unrushed tour, showing us where to store our belongings, where the amenities were located, and even the exact spot we’d be training in. The environment was clean, calm, and well-organized, and we felt totally prepared for the session.

After class, the receptionist checked in to see how it went and followed up with a confident and friendly conversation about memberships. She offered us a same-day discount on a monthly membership, clearly explained the pricing, and even offered to call later to help us sign up. Her energy was warm, genuine, and thoughtful throughout, and she made it easy for us to imagine ourselves returning for more.

The Class Experience

BoxUnion Sherman Oaks received our Class Experience Award of Excellence.

The class delivered a high-energy and positive experience, with strong engagement and a motivating atmosphere throughout. We were welcomed warmly at the start, and an effort was made to learn our names and offer a quick induction on key movements. The warmup felt well-paced and engaging, and instructions for each exercise were clear and easy to follow, supported by strong verbal and visual cues. Regressions were offered when needed, and helpful individual corrections were given during the workout.

Throughout the session, our coach maintained a strong presence, moving around the room to offer encouragement and support. The playlist complemented the energy of the class, and the mood remained upbeat from start to finish. However, there was no clear overview of the class structure or timing, which left us unsure of how the session would unfold. There was also no formal injury check or follow-up with first-timers after class, which would have elevated the experience.

Despite these minor gaps, the workout flowed well, the coach remained available after class, and the group atmosphere felt inclusive and encouraging. The sense of community was clear, with the class participants and the coach celebrating small wins together—making for an enjoyable and motivating experience overall. We'd definitely return for more.

The Equipment And Studio

The training space at BoxUnion Sherman Oaks was clean, comfortable, and professionally presented. All equipment was in excellent condition and of high professional quality, with enough options to suit various ability levels. Stations were clearly defined, fully stocked, and spaced out well to ensure a smooth workout flow.

The blue lighting added a strong sense of brand identity and created a vibrant, energetic environment. The walls, ceilings, and training floor were all spotless and well-maintained, and the space was kept at a comfortable temperature throughout the session.

While the studio design wasn’t particularly striking and there were no branding elements on the equipment itself, the atmosphere was elevated by the lighting and sound system. Overall, we felt that the space offered a fresh, functional, and high-quality setting for a great class experience.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The public areas at BoxUnion Sherman Oaks were clean, well-kept, and thoughtfully organized, creating a fresh and professional environment. Clear branding was present throughout, including motivational signage and branded retail on display. The waiting area was comfortable, though seating was limited to a single bench. The layout was intuitive, and we found the club was easy to find from the street.

Changing areas were tidy and stocked with an impressive range of amenities, including branded lotions, dry shampoo, and deodorant attractively presented in matching containers and acrylic jars. Showers were functional and provided good pressure and consistent temperature, although some minor cleanliness and maintenance issues—like loose handles and stray hair—were noted. Lockers were clean, in excellent condition, and had combination locks, but lacked hangers. Complimentary towels were available for shower use, neatly folded on a shelf.

Workout towels were not provided, and hairdryers and seating in the changing area were also absent. These additions, along with a few cleanliness touch-ups, would have elevated the experience to the next level. A water refill station and bottled water for purchase were available, though no snacks or additional beverage options were offered.

Digital And Technology

The digital experience at the club made a strong first impression on us, with a clean and intuitive booking process that felt smooth and reliable. The website was professionally designed and aligned well with the brand’s identity, featuring bold colors, clear class visuals, and concise language. We found it easy to navigate and packed with all the essentials—class descriptions, instructor bios, scheduling, and directions—helping us feel well-prepared and excited for their visit.

Emails that followed the booking were informative and visually branded with logos and class imagery, reinforcing the club’s identity. However, there was no receipt sent for the purchased class, and the emails lacked a consistent tone of voice, which slightly detracted from the otherwise polished flow. Social media content accurately captured the client experience and was updated regularly, though inconsistent fonts on Instagram made the page feel slightly off-brand.

While the club did not use in-class tech to enhance the workout itself, it offered a well-built branded app and an on-demand training option for added flexibility. These digital touchpoints, combined with the smooth booking system and overall professionalism of the website, helped create a highly impressive digital journey despite the minor issues.
