The Barry's Story

Barry’s proudly proclaims their cardio and strength hybrid training to be the ‘best workout in the world’, and have built a large and loyal global following.

Founded in 1998 in Los Angeles by Barry Jay, Barry’s became a pioneer of the boutique fitness scene and one of its most recognized brands.

After steady growth during its first decade, Barry’s opened its first international location in Norway in 2011, followed by London two years later. There are currently seven locations in London, with one location each in Manchester and Liverpool.

The famous ‘red room’ has since expanded to over 70 locations across the globe in 14 countries including Singapore, Australia, UAE, Qatar, as well as other regions in Europe.

The company is now headed by former Barry’s instructor Joey Gonzalez, who is overseeing their further expansion with a mix of franchise and corporate-owned locations.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“I really appreciated how the receptionist went out of her way to explain everything and even offered me a free Ride x Lift credit to try a unique class.”

“The whole place just screamed Barry’s—from the red lighting to the logos on the towels and mats—it felt super polished and consistent.”

“Our coach was solid and professional, but I wish there’d been more personal engagement, especially since it was my first time at that location.”

What to Expect From A Barry's West Hollywood Session

Barry’s is a 50-minute, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout split between cardio and strength training. Instructors guide you through alternating segments of treadmill sprints and floor-based weightlifting, creating a powerful balance of endurance and resistance work. For those who prefer not to run, a Double Floor option is also available.

Each day follows a targeted muscle split—ranging from arms and abs to total body—to ensure safe and consistent strength progress. The schedule is designed to rotate muscle focus for optimal recovery and performance.

Barry’s signature Red Room delivers an unmatched atmosphere: dim lights, custom playlists, and an electrifying group energy that keeps motivation high. Whether you're sprinting on a Woodway treadmill or lifting heavy on the floor, the community and music push you to your best.

The newest innovation, RIDE x LIFT, brings Barry’s iconic HIIT format to an indoor cycling experience, combining bike intervals with strength work on the floor. Shimano cycling shoes are available to rent for $3, and personal SPD-compatible shoes are welcome.

From expert instructors to curated playlists, every detail is designed to elevate your performance and keep you coming back for more.

The Reception Service

Our phone call with the studio was friendly, structured, and filled with helpful info. The receptionist gave us a clear breakdown of class formats, pricing options, and how to sign up, even going the extra step to explain class capacity and how to access the schedule online. The conversation felt professional and easy to follow, and we left the call feeling well-prepped and excited for our visit—though it leaned more informative than personal, with no questions asked about our fitness background or goals.

On arrival at the club, we were welcomed warmly and our first-timer status was acknowledged. While we didn’t get an unprompted tour, a team member kindly offered to show us to the lockers and changing room when we asked for help, which was appreciated. The check-in process was smooth, and the space was comfortable and well-organized. Everyone we encountered was polite and carried themselves with a friendly, professional vibe.

After class, we were asked how we enjoyed it and encouraged to return. While one team member wasn’t fully confident answering questions about packages, the supervisor stepped in and gave us fantastic guidance. She asked us smart questions to help match us with the best membership option, explained the unique Ride x Lift feature at this location, and even applied a complimentary credit so we could try it. She also offered a great tip to pre-order from the fuel bar before class—an example of thoughtful, next-level service that really stuck with us.

The Class Experience

Barry's West Hollywood received our Class Experience Award of Excellence.

The class at Barry’s West Hollywood delivered a solid and energizing workout with a clear structure and smooth transitions between treadmill and floor segments. Our instructor brought good energy to the room, provided easy-to-follow cues, and kept things moving with well-timed direction and motivation. Options were offered for treadmill speeds and inclines, allowing everyone to tailor the challenge to their level.

While the instructor was professional and available to help when needed—including assisting quickly with a treadmill issue—he didn’t engage much with us individually before, during, or after class. There were no personalized greetings or injury checks, and encouragement remained general rather than tailored. A quick fist bump at the end was the only direct touchpoint, despite the instructor being around post-class for a while.

That said, the community vibe helped fill in the gaps. A fellow participant noticed it was the client’s first time, offered a warm welcome, and even helped with wipes between intervals.

The Equipment And Studio

The equipment and studio at Barry’s Bootcamp West Hollywood left a strong impression, with clean, high-quality machines and a bold branded aesthetic throughout. All cardio and strength gear was in excellent condition, with ample variety to support different ability levels. Equipment was well-spaced and fully stocked, ensuring a safe and accessible environment for everyone in class.

Branding was seamlessly integrated across the studio, from mats and bands to treadmills and even the embroidered workout towels. The red lighting, exposed ceilings, and industrial design added to the gritty-chic Barry’s vibe, while the studio remained clean, fresh, and comfortable. The high-end sound system and professional layout helped create an immersive, energizing workout space that felt both polished and distinctive.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The public areas at Barry’s Bootcamp West Hollywood delivered a highly impressive experience with their bold branding, professional design, and strong sense of welcome. From the neon WeHo signage at the entrance to the polished front desk, apparel displays, and lounge space, the layout felt cohesive and well thought out. Branded elements—from wall logos to celebratory balloons—were found throughout, creating a vibrant yet professional energy. Staff were warm and helpful across all areas, contributing to the overall sense of hospitality.

The locker rooms were clean, spacious, and well-equipped with Dyson hair dryers, neatly presented amenities, and thoughtful branding touches like logo signage on the wall. Towels—both workout and shower—were clean, free of charge, and presented in an organized way, with disposal bins tucked discreetly underneath. While the lockers were in excellent condition and featured a secure locking mechanism, hangers were not provided, though a hanging space was available nearby. The grooming area offered ample counter space, stocked with Q-tips, spray deodorant, and lotion.

The showers were spotless and stocked with high-end OUAI products, and the six available stalls meant no wait was needed. Complimentary water, Barry’s-branded bottles, and drinks like Celsius and La Colombe were offered at the fuel bar, which also served smoothies with playful names. The client appreciated both the friendly bar attendant and the lively branding that ran throughout the space. Aside from loud music at the front desk making conversation a bit tricky, the experience was smooth, stylish, and highly polished.

Digital And Technology

The digital experience at Barry’s Bootcamp West Hollywood was smooth, intuitive, and well-executed. Booking was available via both the branded app and the website, with a clean and user-friendly interface. The confirmation email clearly outlined when to arrive, and the cancellation policy was easily accessible through the FAQs. Communications—both text and email—were polished, friendly, and reflected Barry’s brand voice with phrases like “Welcome to our Fit Fam.” The design and tone of the website and emails stayed true to the Barry’s aesthetic and values, enhancing the overall client experience.

The club’s website provided all the essentials with ease, from clear first-visit guidance to class descriptions, instructor bios, and even a brand story page outlining their values. Social media channels were updated regularly and visually aligned with the brand, though they lacked direct schedule links. The branded app added convenience, though there were no additional in-studio tech features to elevate the class experience further.

Overall, we felt impressed by the professionalism, ease of access, and on-brand communications across digital touchpoints, making it easy to feel prepared and excited ahead of our visit.
