The SoulCycle Story

SoulCycle is considered by many to be the indoor cycling brand. Their first Manhattan studio opened back in ‘06 and started an indoor cycling revolution that paved the way for other premium fitness brands and concepts. Right after launch classes were quickly waitlisted, and it was clear that founders Elizabeth Cutler, Julie Rice and Ruth Zukerman were onto something special.

SouCycle was later acquired by Equinox in 2011, which helped turbocharge their expansion to over 100 studios in the US, Canada and the UK. They’re famous for their candlelit studios, bike choreography and instructors that are as much MCs and DJs as they are fitness professionals.

What To Expect From A SoulCycle Session

SoulCycle is a premium indoor cycling offering that delivers soulful, music-driven rides in a fun and nightclub-like environment. Their “boundary-pushing” workout is designed to uplift and empower in an environment that’s inclusive and non-judgmental. During the class, everyone cycles in time with the beat of the music, creating an in-sync unity and vibe that’s made it world-renowned.

They often do themed rides featuring particular artists, for example, you might find a Beyonce Vs Jay-Z class, and each instructor becomes well-known for their music selection.

If you’re a first timer to SoulCycle, we recommend seeking out a class or instructor that you vibe with and shares your taste in music.

The Reception Service

Our phone call to SoulCycle Soho started things off strong; the team member was warm, upbeat, and full of useful information. We left the call feeling prepped and ready for class, which set a great tone for the visit.

Stepping into the studio, the vibe was friendly but a bit hectic. Staff were smiling and helpful, but there was a lot going on - multiple conversations, and even a moment where the receptionist had to pause mid–check-in because she was eating. The basics like registration and orientation were handled smoothly, and we were given clear instructions about where to go and what to do.

After class, there was a quick check-in to see if we’d had fun, but no effort to encourage us back or talk through next steps.

The Class Experience

The Class Experience was good has received The Fit Guide Recommended rating.

The class at SoulCycle Soho delivered exactly what you’d expect from the brand - a high-energy, sweat-drenched ride that left us feeling like we’d truly earned that post-class glow. The coach brought energy from start to finish, jumping off the bike to cheer, dance and keep the room buzzing. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and it was clear they genuinely loved leading the session.

While the vibe was electric, the finer details could have helped us feel more comfortable as a first time visitor. There wasn’t much personal connection with individuals in the room, either during or before and after the class - names weren’t used, and first-timers weren’t asked about injuries or experience levels. Some of the moves went unexplained too, with an unspoken assumption that we’d pick things up as they went.

Despite the missing personal touches, the session was undeniably fun. The playlist had the class singing along, the energy never dipped, and the finish,  complete with cheers and claps, wrapped things up on a high note. It wasn’t the most tailored class experience, but it absolutely delivered on the trademark SoulCycle hype and left us walking out the door feeling exhilarated.

The Equipment And Studio

The SoulCycle Soho studio made an immediate impression with its clean, polished look and clever branding woven throughout the space. From the “2 Soul” dumbbells to the wall emblazoned with the iconic SoulCycle name, every detail reinforced their identity. The mix of lighting added drama and energy, and the temperature in the room hit that sweet spot for a sweaty but comfortable workout.

The equipment itself was in great shape, with bikes and weights that felt professional and well cared for. That said, the bikes were packed so closely that getting to a spot required a bit of a climb over another setup, which wasn’t the smoothest experience.

The Facilities And Public Areas

SoulCycle Soho had an undeniably strong brand presence, with the iconic wheel behind reception, on-brand signage, and even bins and towel baskets matching the aesthetic. The atmosphere felt high-energy, with music pumping through the space, which set the tone for the workout ahead. Complimentary workout and shower towels were available, as well as lockers with built-in number locks.

The club’s compact size, however, created challenges. The waiting area consisted of just two benches and was shared with reception and retail, leaving little space for clients to linger comfortably. After class, the changing rooms felt especially cramped and uncomfortable, with clients bumping past each other to reach showers and lockers. Six showers were available, but demand outstripped supply, leading to a wait, and while amenities like moisturiser, q-tips, and hair ties were provided.

Despite these issues, the studio’s design and branding gave it a polished and professional look, and little touches like towels already placed on bikes and hooks inside lockers showed thoughtfulness.

Digital And Technology

SoulCycle Soho’s digital experience came across as polished and mostly seamless, with a mobile-friendly website that was easy to navigate and packed with on-brand touches. The tone stayed true to SoulCycle’s fun voice, and key information was clear and easy to find.

Their social media carried the same energy, with high-quality photos and consistent updates that mirrored the studio’s vibe. Emails were strong on branding, full of visuals and personality.
