1Rebel - Victoria

London, UK

The 1Rebel Story

1Rebel was founded in 2014 by James Balfour and Giles Dean in the belief that the fitness industry at the time was “broken and in need of disruption”. He set out to create a per-session pay-as-you-go model that created fitness experiences that felt more like events, than fitness classes.

1Rebel quickly established itself as one of London’s most exciting fitness brands, with superstar coaches and ‘Prosecco Fridays’, where a glass of bubbly would be waiting for you after your evening session.

1Rebel initially offered a boxing concept called Rumble, a treadmill and floor strength work concept called Reshape and a cycling class, Ride. They have since added Reformer, a pilates-inspired workout, as well as Rig, a strength training concept. A personal training service, Rebel Labs, is also available at select branches.

International expansion has seen 1Rebel launch locations in Saudi Arabia, Israel, UAE and Australia.

How Did 1Rebel Score Overall?

The full client experience at 1Rebel Victoria was good, achieving our Recommended rating.

The class experience achieved our Rated score.

The Highlights

The lights, sound system and class energy helped create one of London’s most visually spectacular cycling experiences. The reception staff were overafriendly and knowledgeable.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“I really enjoyed the warm-up and felt energized and excited for the rest of the class”.

“The coach had high energy, and seemed to be enjoying the class”.

“There were interesting lighting design elements throughout the main area of the studio, which added to the sense of brand”.

What To Expect From A 1Rebel Ride Session

A Ride session at 1Rebel Victoria is a true spectacle unmatched in the industry. The room holds around 75 bikes and is more auditorium than fitness studio, with an upper level overlooking the other riders and instructor. Lazers, lights, a ridiculous sound system and a hydraulic stage that moves up and down all combine to round off a truly unique cycling experience.

For the workout, expect cycling to the beat of the music on high-end Technogym bikes.

The Reception Service

Our pre-visit call to the branch was excellent, with the staff clearly explaining everything we needed to know to have a great first session.

The team at 1Rebel were pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful, and an orientation of the club was given on arrival. The service could have been improved with more of an effort to personalize the service and connect with us.

The Class Experience

1Rebel Victoria achieved our Rated score for the Class Experience.

Our session was a high-energy experience. There was a clear sense of the club’s community amongst the riders, with another member helping our evaluator out when they got stuck with the bike. As our evaluator had not been to this class or club before, more help and attention from the instructor on getting comfortable with the set up would have improved the experience.

The Equipment And Studio

The slick Technogym bikes contributed to a smooth ride, and the lighting effects set the scene for a unique and impactful experience. Only one set of weights were provided, which were too heavy for our evaluator.

The Facilities And Public Areas

Workout and shower towels were provided free of charge. Lockers were provided with number locks. Free water refill stations were available.

The public areas and changing rooms were well designed and equipped, with a strong sense of brand throughout. The studio, although stunning, was a little tight on space around some of the bikes.

Digital And Technology

We were able to easily make a booking through 1Rebel’s branded app, as it was informative and easy to navigate. The brand’s social media channels were regularly updated and portrayed its values well.

1Rebel Victoria offers an introductory deal of three classes for £49 for first-time clients.

If you’re looking for a longer-term commitment, memberships are available from £85 per month for five classes, to £190 per month for unlimited classes. It should be noted that these prices are based on a six-month contract and that prices vary for three or 12-month commitments.

Drop-in sessions are available at £25 per class, with smaller commitment packages also available, starting at a three-pack for £70.
