1Rebel - Oxford Circus

London, UK

The 1Rebel Story

1Rebel was founded in 2014 by James Balfour and Giles Dean in the belief that the fitness industry at the time was “broken and in need of disruption”. He set out to create a per-session pay-as-you-go model that created fitness experiences that felt more like events, than fitness classes.

1Rebel quickly established itself as one of London’s most exciting fitness brands, with superstar coaches and ‘Prosecco Fridays’, where a glass of bubbly would be waiting for you after your evening session.

1Rebel initially offered a boxing concept called Rumble, a treadmill and floor strength work concept called Reshape and a cycling class, Ride. They have since added Reformer, a pilates-inspired workout, as well as Rig, a strength training concept. A personal training service, Rebel Labs, is also available at select branches.

International expansion has seen 1Rebel launch locations in Saudi Arabia, Israel, UAE and Australia.

How Did 1Rebel Oxford Circus Score Overall?

The full client experience at 1Rebel Oxford Circus was outstanding, achieving our prestigious and highest The Fit Guide 5-Star Award.

The class was also very impressive, winning our highest 5-Star Class Experience Award.

The Highlights

The class experience from start to finish was a particular highlight, with an industry-leading coach guiding a true fitness experience that was suitable for all levels, including our first-time evaluator.

The public areas were also a stand-out positive, with interesting features and on-point branding throughout.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“I was well taken care of and felt that the coach really wanted me to perform well and have a good time.”

“The coach's energy, the lighting effects and music made the class a fun and enjoyable experience.”

“The industrial design was trendy, with ceilings showing pipework, exposed brick, and plywood elements throughout.”

What To Expect From A 1Rebel Rumble Session

1Rebel’s ‘Rumble’ concept blends water bag boxing with HIIT and strength work on their infamous Rebel Bench.

During the 45-minute session, you can expect jab, cross, hook and uppercut combos combined with fast footwork for the boxing component. Bodyweight exercises such as burpees and squats coupled with dumbbell strength exercises on the Rebel Bench complete the workout.

Rumble is available at Oxford Circus and Broadgate in Liverpool Street.

The Reception Service

Our pre-visit call to the branch was informative and helpful. In branch, an orientation was given and the basic were covered. More of an effort to connect with our evaluator and help them continue training would have improved the experience.

The Class Experience

1Rebel Oxford Circus has achieved The Fit Guide 5-Star Class Experience award for an exceptional class, putting it amongst the very best in London and the industry.

Our class experience was led by a motivating and knowledgeable instructor who made a big effort to connect with everyone individually and bring energy and life to the room. The community vibe was strong throughout, completing a great experience.

The Equipment And Studio

The equipment in the class was minimal, but clean. Colored lighting effects were used to create the vibe, which was very much in line with the 1Rebel brand feel.

The Facilities And Public Areas

Workout and shower towels were provided free of charge. Lockers were provided with number locks. Free water refill stations were available.

The reception area was very spacious, and all areas had interesting design features such as exposed pipework in the changing rooms and the use of plywood and tiles, which contributed to the modern, industrial feel.

Digital And Technology

We were able to easily make a booking through 1Rebel’s branded app, as it was informative and easy to navigate. The brand’s social media channels were regularly updated and portrayed its values well.
