1Rebel - High Street Kensington

London, UK

The 1Rebel Story

1Rebel was founded in 2014 by James Balfour and Giles Dean in the belief that the fitness industry at the time was “broken and in need of disruption”. He set out to create a per-session pay-as-you-go model that created fitness experiences that felt more like events, than fitness classes.

1Rebel quickly established itself as one of London’s most exciting fitness brands, with superstar coaches and ‘Prosecco Fridays’, where a glass of bubbly would be waiting for you after your evening session.

1Rebel initially offered a boxing concept called Rumble, a treadmill and floor strength work concept called Reshape and a cycling class, Ride. They have since added Reformer, a pilates-inspired workout, as well as Rig, a strength training concept. A personal training service, Rebel Labs, is also available at select branches.

International expansion has seen 1Rebel launch locations in Saudi Arabia, Israel, UAE and Australia.

How Did 1Rebel High Street Kensington Score Overall?

The full client experience at 1Rebel High Street Kensington was outstanding, achieving our prestigious and highest The Fit Guide 5-Star Award.

The class was also very impressive, winning our highest 5-Star Class Experience Award.

The Highlights

Our instructor’s energy and attentive coaching stood out as a particular highlight, with the clean and impressively designed public areas also helping this 1Rebel club to rank amongst the very best in London.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“The coach made an effort to meaningfully connect and offer personalized interactions throughout the session.”

“The coach's energy gave the impression that they truly wanted to be there and had a good time.”

“There were Polaroid pictures of the clients at the top of the stairs to the basement which indicated a strong sense of community in the club.”

What To Expect From A 1Rebel Rig Session

1Rebel’s Rig concept offers four stations combining cardio and strength training. On the cardio side, the Bike and Row stations use airbikes and concept 2 rowers to get you breathing hard and heavy.

The Rebel Bench station offers their signature dumbbell strength exercises, combined with the Rig station to round off the strength component, where you can expect bodyweight, kettlebell and pull up bar exercises.

Class types include Intensity, focusing on interval training; Engine, which is cardio-heavy; Strength, which focuses on building strength and power; Team, where you work with others to hit a common goal, and Benchmark, which is their monthly performance tracking class.

Find Rig at Hammersmith and High Street Kensington locations.

The Reception Service

Our pre-visit call to the branch was informative, with the friendly staff clearly explaining that the Rig class was no longer taught at the High Street Kensington branch, as well as other important information to do with the Ride classes that are taught at the location.

In branch, the service was satisfactory, with the basics covered but with little effort to connect beyond this.

The Class Experience

1Rebel High Street Kensington has achieved The Fit Guide 5-Star Class Experience award for an exceptional class, putting it amongst the best in London and the industry.

Our coach on the day was outstanding. He made a strong effort to really personalize the service and meaningfully connect with everyone. He was floating around the room to observe us from different angles, offering adjustments and advice where needed. His energy really fueled the atmosphere of the room, completing a true five-star experience.

The Equipment And Studio

The training area was well lit with neon lighting effects, and there was a clear sense of brand throughout the studio. Smaller details were noted and welcomed, such as branded benches and screens displaying the different stations, such as Bike, Rig and Row.

The Facilities And Public Areas

Workout and shower towels were provided free of charge. Lockers were provided with number locks. Free water refill stations were available.

The public areas were impressive to look at and offered a strong and consistent sense of the 1Rebel brand. Changing rooms were clean and well maintained, with a nice array of amenities available.

Digital And Technology

We were able to easily make a booking through 1Rebel’s branded app, as it was informative and easy to navigate. The brand’s social media channels were regularly updated and portrayed its values well.
